its all about the timing...

do you believe that everything happens for a reason at JUST the right time? i do. i always have and i always will. tonight was a prime example. looking back it seems like everything falls into place just when its supposed to but at the time it was a bit frustrating!... i felt like the whole day was off really.. we got a late start (even though jackson was up EARLY!) so we ended up leaving a little later.. then there was an accident so we got stuck in traffic.. jackson went down for his nap a little late but then ended up sleeping from 915-1215!!! thats a THREE hour nap!!!!!! so just when we were going to go out to play janssen fell asleep on the couch! so i transported him into the stroller, he stayed sleeping, and we went for a nice long walk - he woke up and we played outside. kris got home a little late, we chatted (of course!) outside with B and then headed out around 430 instead of 4.. we got home - i made jacksons dinner, then my dinner, picked up my computer to quickly check some emails (which i normally never do between the time we get home and jackson goes to bed..) i returned a few emails and decided at 615 jackson was going to take a bath a little earlier tonight so he could be IN bed at 645 - lately we've slipped back until about 7pm which i think has been disrupting his sleep (i know sounds crazy, but you moms out there KNOW what 15 minutes can do!!) so i switched our door to open so i could take the trash out but then got distracted... i got jackson ready for his bath. we played and he took his bath - he was super funny and giggley and i lost track of how long we had been playing tubby toys! i got him out and in his jammies a little later than i had hoped.. 640ish. just as i picked jackson up to turn on his cd and sit in the rocking chair scooter started barking.. now thats nothing new seeing as he barks at everyone that walks by but he was REALLY barking... i walked over to the door and heard a beeping but thought maybe it was a car alarm or something... then all of a sudden it got LOUD. when i say loud i mean REALLY loud. OHHHHH thats right.. it was the FIRE ALARM!?!??!?!?! i am standing in the hallway with jackson in his glow-in-the-dark dino jammies, i grab my black sweatshirt i had been wearing since it was on the stroller and i knew my cell phone was in there.. i grabbed the dog and opened the door. i got into our hallway when i saw other people who said, someone is just burning something, dont worry about it.. meanwhile im standing in the hallway with a dog who is freaking out and a baby who is looking around wondering what the heck is going on!!! so i went back in our house and realized - hello! they are both going to freakout if we stay here with that BLAIRING noise!! so we headed outside... i walked out the door, shut the door only to realize, I DONT THINK I HAVE MY KEYS!!! .. but remember i switched the door so i could bring the trash out -- well good thing i did because i went back in to get my keys! so we go outside, everyone else is outside too we're all stading around - the fire dept. comes, all the kids are in their jammies ready for bed.. they take care of everything and we all go back in.
Round two. we try it again! i turn on jacksons cd and sat down in the rocking chair for his nursing before bed.. he was GLOWING since we had been outside and his dinos are glow-in-the-dark!! he was SO tired the poor little bear! He fell right asleep in my arms so of course i had to sit there and think about what just happened! It was actually very telling - the whole thing really made me think.
I was thinking about the fact that i was standing in the middle of my house thinking 'what do i take? i have my cell phone, our dog, jackaroni and.............. what would i take? nothing. i left the apartment thinking just get outside with these two and think about the rest later. but as i was sitting there looking back i was thinking - wow. i didnt grab anything - pictures, camera, nor did any of it enter my mind. i guess as my favorite donna said 'those are the only things you need to live for the rest of your life.' and yes, she is right. it also got me thinking about how all over the place things are in a time of crisis. what if this was the middle of the night? what if this really was a BIG fire? what would i have done? would i have known where to grab everything? so what did i do? i put all the things in a place that i could grab if i needed them in one swoop. now i suggest to you that YOU do the same. go ahead. i'll wait.
so dont you agree its all about the timing? i mean, this was a very containable event, BUT if one of those things earlier from my day was off who knows what could have happened? i probably would have put jackson to bed already - he probably would have FREEAAAKKKED if that woke him up.. i almost kept driving to my moms after work and if this was a real fire, how would scooter have gotten out? yikes. just makes you wonder if that slow car that is annoying in front of you is helping the stars align just enough to keep you safe.... so again, if you ask me. its all about the timing.

whew. now its back to proofing.

I say that it is all about timing all the time. I am a strong believer in fate and things that happen for a reason, and your story is a big reason why!

I am so glad that you are safe, and it all worked out. I am going to have to think about getting a fire-proof box or something, but you are right, in the end, my baby, my dogs, my husband- that is all I really need.

Great post!

I am so with you on this one. I live my life beliving "it is what it is" and "it all happens for a reason" and it hasn't let me down yet.

What a day!! Glad you see the positive and also glad you are all safe and ok. #
